After You leave the hospital, how will I know if my baby has jaundice?
You should call your doctor if your baby shows any of the following symptoms:
refuses breastfeeding or bottle feeding, or is sleepy all the time;
has lost a significant amount of weight (more than 10% of the baby’s weight at birth); or
is extremely jaundiced (the baby’s arms and legs are yellow).
The doctor will do a physical examination and often blood tests to see how severe the baby’s jaundice is. The doctor can then determine how it should be treated.
